- Description: United just launched a tool to check whether your flight has Starlink Wi-Fi. Then someone on X built a Delta version, and its answer never changes. Here's the real story behind the joke.

Does Delta have Starlink? If you’ve been wondering, someone built a website to answer that question, and it has exactly one answer. The fan-made Starlink Wi-Fi Tracker: Delta Edition, now spreading on X, copies the look of United’s new tool and asks, “Is Starlink Wi-Fi on your Delta flight?” It invites you to check your flight “up to three days before departure, or three years. The answer doesn’t change.”

The joke spread fast. One post sharing the site had passed 3.8 million views by Friday, and it landed just as United was using Starlink to go after Delta's most loyal customers.

## What United Launched

On Thursday, United launched its own Starlink Tracker, a real tool that lets you enter your flight number within three days of departure to see whether your plane has Starlink, the satellite internet service from SpaceX. United says Starlink is now on more than 635 of its planes and nearly half of its daily departures, more than 2,500 flights a day.

United has been installing it on about 20 planes a week and plans to finish by the end of 2027\. It's also using Starlink as a recruiting pitch. Its "Switch to Better Wi-Fi" status match, aimed at Delta and American frequent flyers, now runs through October 22\. Applications are reportedly up 275% since the offer launched.

## Why Delta Doesn't Have Starlink

Delta didn't sign with SpaceX. In March, it announced a deal with Amazon Leo, Amazon's rival satellite internet network, to put its service on 500 planes. Installations don't start until 2028, which is why the fake tracker's answer won't change for a while.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian called Amazon Leo "the best, fastest and most cost-effective technology available" when the deal was announced. In the meantime, Delta flyers still get the airline's current Wi-Fi, which is free for SkyMiles members.

## Does It Matter for Your Next Flight?

For most trips, the difference is speed and consistency. Starlink's satellites orbit much closer to Earth than the older satellites many airlines use, which is why passengers often describe it as working like Wi-Fi at home, fast enough for video calls and streaming.

That doesn't make Delta's Wi-Fi unusable, and it's still free for SkyMiles members, which plenty of airlines can't say. But if fast Wi-Fi is a dealbreaker for you, United's tracker will tell you a few days ahead whether you'll get Starlink. On Delta, you'll have to wait for Amazon Leo, and the fan site isn't going to change its answer before then.
