BREAKING — Tokyo's Haneda Airport has found itself in the spotlight again for nearly becoming the site of an aviation incident. Flightradar24 reported early Tuesday morning that a Civil Aviation Bureau CitationJet flew in the path of an ANA 767 from Shanghai that was on final approach into the airport. At their closest point, the two aircraft had roughly 100ft of vertical separation and less than a mile of lateral separation, according to ADS-B data. The loss of spacing triggered a collision alert (TCAS-RA) which prompted the pilots of the ANA flight to initiate a successful go-around.

Haneda is Japan's busiest airport, and this is the second time in three years that a government aircraft has been involved in a safety event there. In early 2024, a deadly runway collision occurred involving a Japan Airlines flight (JAL 516) and a coast guard plane which temporarily brought the airport under scrutiny from Japan's Transport Safety Board (JTSB). Fortunately, today's loss of separation incident had a much smoother ending, as all passengers onboard the ANA flight and the CAB jet are reportedly all safe and uninjured.
