If you're flying to or from Amman tonight, check your flight before heading to the airport. Heavy fog is reportedly disrupting flights at Queen Alia International Airport, Jordan's main airport, with reports on Monday night saying flight operations had been suspended because of poor visibility. Neither the airport nor Royal Jordanian, the country's national airline, has made a public statement yet.

Flight tracking data shows the picture is more mixed than a full shutdown, at least so far. A Royal Jordanian flight from Beirut landed shortly after 10 p.m. local time, but a short Royal Jordanian hop from Aqaba, due a few minutes earlier, still hadn't touched down. Some later flights are already running late, including a Royal Jordanian arrival from Dubai now expected around 3 a.m. and a flydubai departure to Dubai pushed back by more than an hour.

## Who's Affected

Royal Jordanian runs most of the flights at Queen Alia, so its passengers are the most likely to see delays tonight. Planes are still due in from Rome, London, Manchester, Cairo, Erbil, Medina and Jeddah, along with Qatar Airways from Doha, flydubai from Dubai and Jordan Aviation from Istanbul. Departures to Dubai, Doha, Beirut, Cairo, Riyadh and Jeddah are scheduled through the rest of the night, and those could slip too if arriving planes are late.

When fog gets thick enough, pilots can't safely land unless the runway and the plane are both equipped for low-visibility landings, so flights may circle and wait for the fog to thin out, land well behind schedule or divert to another airport and fly back to Amman later.

## What to Do If You're Flying Tonight

Check your flight in the airline's app or on its website before you leave, since the departure board can change quickly in fog. If you're picking someone up, track their flight rather than heading to the airport at the original arrival time, because a delayed or diverted plane could land hours later.

Fog in Amman tends to burn off after sunrise, so the disruption should ease by Tuesday morning. Even so, late planes tonight can mean knock-on delays for the first flights of the day, so it's worth checking again in the morning if you're flying early on Tuesday.
